I had sent an email to some dear friends and partners asking for prayer and accountability. I had a “wake up call” of sorts to how I was doing life and ministry and made a commitment to stop and take a break. One of those dear friends and a longtime ministry partner replied, “Love you and praying for full restoration and refreshing in this season! ” Thanks to her incredible generosity I went to a little carriage house in Fort Myers for a retreat.
With me, I had a retreat guide my spiritual director, Sue, had prepared on my behalf. Her words to me were something like, “This is for you. Take and leave what you will. Know that this was prayerfully made for you.” With those words, I decided to take it — all. The guide provided me with a “daily agenda” of readings and activities, each inviting me to connect with God in different ways. As my retreat came to an end I left for home seeing my friend’s prayers answered. I had a time of restoration and refreshing.
Sue served me as a Spiritual Director. I had met with her a few times over Skype. She listened, asked me thoughtful questions, created a time and space to sit quietly together with her to listen to God. Over Skype and in the pages of a retreat guide, she created with and for me safe, sacred spaces of rest and care; a place of abiding.
I desire to do the same for others.
I desire to demonstrate value, care, and love of others — as ones created in the image of God and loved by Him. I long for people to know and experience being His beloved. I want to be an advocate and a companion for spiritual growth and health that each would flourish in life and ministry.
Out of a desire to better come alongside others, I received spiritual direction training through Leadership Transformation Inc., Selah.
Selah is a two-year, certificate training program for those called to companion others in their life with God. Through Selah’s teaching and experiential learning, I had the opportunity to grow in my own understanding and practice of spiritual formation and spiritual direction.
On a free day, you can find me lying under a tree, at a beach or by any water’s edge — usually with a pen and journal in hand; wandering around town with a camera; or just off exploring. Whether it’s a new place, a new restaurant to sit at with friends, I enjoy exploring and discovering new places and experiences.
